Combined primary coupler design and control for EV dynamic wireless charging system

Dynamic wireless power transfer is a practical method to solve electric vehicle range anxiety and reduce the cost of on-board batteries. However, the power cannot be transferred between different coupler structures. In this paper, DDQ coupler is adopted in primary side for delivering power to any secondary coupler. A novel multiple legs inverter topology and reflected load identification method is proposed in this paper. In the proposed circuit, primary pads could be excited selectively via a sole primary converter; the on-line reflected load identification method is proposed to detect the electrical vehicle's position precisely, and provide accurate startup reference. The system realized primary pads transfer power to any secondary coupler with fast response and high efficiency. A 5.7kW prototype of a dynamic wireless charging system was developed to prove the validity of the theoretical analysis.
