Maximum Throughput of CSMA Networks With Capture

This letter focuses on the throughput performance of carrier sense multiple access (CSMA) networks with capture, where one packet can be successfully transmitted as long as its received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) exceeds a certain capture threshold. An explicit expression of the network throughput is derived, based on which the maximum throughput is further characterized. It is shown that the capture capability can lead to a significant throughput gain, yet a comparative study with Aloha networks reveals that it may also weaken the benefit of carrier sensing.
