Investigation of the characteristics of nucleobases using broadband Terahertz spectroscopy

To better understand the mechanics of deoxyribonucleic acids (DNA), the collective vibrational modes of the individual nucleobases are investigated through Terahertz (THz) spectroscopy using a Fourier Transform spectrometer (FTS). It has been shown, using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) that the nucleobases and nucleosides have distinctive spectral features between 0.6 to 4 THz [1]. Presented here is the full spectral content of the nucleobases from 0.6 THz to 18 THz by using a safe and novel technique.
