Design and analysis of multiband symmetrical MLA with fractal metamaterial

A novel Symmetrical Meander Line Antenna (MLA) with Sierpinski Pedal Antenna (SPA) as metamaterial has been introduced in this paper. In any design the antenna size is critical, meandering or folding an antenna wire increases its resonant length without the increase in its physical size and by using SPA with metamaterial enhances the return loss, frequency and can be operated as multiband. Metamaterial is artificially designed structures that have negative permeability and permittivity. This paper also demonstrates the changes in parameters like frequency return loss and gain when different substrates are used. The antenna occupies a compact size of 45×50×1.57 mm

. The prototype has been designed to function in following L, S, C, X, Ku bands. HFSS software has been employed for optimizing the design parameters.
