An efficient design of redundant binary modified partial product generator

For the designing of high performance multipliers, the redundant binary representation can be used because of its high modularity and carry free addition. In this paper, a multiplier using redundant binary modified partial product generator (RBMPPG) is designed. A redundant binary modified partial product generator eliminates the extra error correcting word generated due to Modified Booth Encoding (MBE) and Redundant Binary Encoding (RBE). The designed multiplier is compared with the conventional normal binary booth encoding based multiplier (CNBBE). In conventional multiplier, due to modified booth encoding scheme neg bit is generated at the LSB of each partial product, due to which an additional redundant binary partial product row is required. The designed redundant binary modified partial product generator reduces the extra partial product row. The designed multiplier shows improved performance in terms of area, delay and power delay product(PDP) over CNBBE multiplier.
