Integrated generation and transmission expansion planning with carbon capture operating constraints

To reduce carbon emission from the power generation sectors, retrofitting the power plants with carbon capture system or building new carbon capture power plant (CCPP) is a promising low-carbon power generation option. Under this new planning background, this paper formulates an integrated generation and transmission network expansion planning model, in which the operating mechanisms of CCPP is taken into account. Thus, a multi-period mixed integer linear programming model is set up to determine the installation time, capacity and position of candidate transmission lines and generating units. The effectiveness of the proposed model is validated on a six-bus system and IEEE 118-bus system.
