Simulation of electric field on the surface of a long flashover arrester

The aim of the paper is to use computer simulation to analyze the electric field distribution on the surface of loop-shaped long-flashover arrester. The 3D model of the arrester was built in a computer program Comsol. On the basis of the simulation results the device was modified to obtain a better distribution of the electric field. This modification was aimed at cost minimization assuring the high quality of the device.
