A wideband non-resonant FSS with finite number of unit cells for mobile phone SAR reduction

is the free space wavelength at 0.5 GHz. FSS measurements in free space confirm that the proposed structure prevents the transmission of both TE and TM polarization for varying angle of incidence. Simulations of a mobile handset with a dual band PIFA indicate that tissue specific absorption rate (SAR) could be reduced by as high as 52 % with appropriate distribution and density of the FSS unit cells.
