Water tree propagation in relation to mechanical properties of polyethylene

A large number of papers have already been devoted to investigations of water treeing in polyethylene insulation and many experimental data are available. A variety of mechanisms have been proposed but none of them is entirely satisfactory. In this paper, we do not present any new experimental observations. Our work is restricted to considerations of the influence of the mechanical properties of polyethylene on the propagation of the trees.
