Position control of an offshore wind turbine with a semi-submersible floating platform using the aerodynamic force

This paper presents an initial work on position control of a floating offshore wind turbine on a semi-submersible platform. The platform positioning is achieved by adjusting the aerodynamic force of the wind through the manipulation of nacelle yaw and blade pitch angles, without introducing any additional actuator at the platform. At each time instant, a proportional velocity feedback controller compensates the reference tracking error by setting the nacelle yaw angle and the blade pitch angle so that the net force is to achieve the desired velocity correction. The proposed control strategy is validated using a simplified model of a baseline 5MW wind turbine.
