Energy saving opportunities in a 200MMSFD sweet gas plant

This paper presents energy saving opportunities that identified during designing a sweet gas plant. The studied case is a 200 MMSCFD (Million standard cubic feet per day) sweet gas processing plant in the Northeast area of British Columbia, Canada. The study shows how incentive energy rate introduced by BC Hydro made it financially reasonable for the owners to invest in energy efficiency of the plant. Potential energy savings are categorized into process design and electrical design categories. As a result of implementing the Energy Efficient design, the estimated annual energy saving is 21.5 GWh, a decrease of 9.4% of the Base Line plant design. The incremental cost of implementing the energy efficient design approximated at $11 million and a 5.6 year simple payback.
