Comparison between AODV protocol and LSGR protocol in VANET

A vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) utilizes vehicles as mobile nodes in a MANET to constitute a mobile network. Many routing protocols for MANETs have been proposed in this way. Amongst the most prevalent ones are Adhoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol. All existing protocols that work effectively in MANETs do not perform well in VANETs. The performance of AODV and Link State Geographic Routing protocol(LSGR), which is specifically designed for VANETs, have been assessed for VANETs in terms of - throughput, the normalized routing load, the average end to end delay, packet drop ratio etc. The performance of the LSGR is superior than the performance of the AODV routing protocol in context of various parameters. A network simulator-2.35 (NS-2) has been utilized for the assessment of the performances of AODV and LSGR routing protocol. To look at the performance of AODV and LSGR routing protocol, the simulation results show graphical way and trace file based on Quality of Service (QoS) metrics such as throughput, the normalized routing load, packet delivery ratio, delay etc. The simulation result analysis confirms the relative performances of LSGR and AODV routing protocol.
