Effects of reduced order modeling on the control of a space station

A control system for the space station is generated by application of optimal control techniques to the truncated modal model. The performance measure is the expected value of the energy in the controlled modes when the station is subject to a random, white noise, disturbance. The resulting control system is then applied to the full order model of the structure. Extensive computer simulation is used to evaluate the effects of the number of controlled modes and the selection of the controlled modes on the performance of the closed loop system.
