Portable speech recognition system for the hearing and speech impaired

This paper discusses the design and development of a portable, calculator size speech recognition system. The system is targeted primarily to enable the speech and hearing impaired to communicate via voice. However, many other related applications are possible for this device, particularly its potential for use in communications over phone lines.
