AN/USM-449(V) ate for worldwide support of the P3 orion

The P3 Long Range Patrol Aircraft has been supported at NARF Alameda, California and Jacksonville, Florida since 1971 on the AAI 5500 ATE. This equipment was installed at the Intermediate shops at Jacksonville NAS and Moffett NAS in 1973 and 1975 to reduce the flow of avionics to the depots for test and repair. The success of this application led to the decision to update the 5500 to the AN/USN 449(V) configuration and install it at all worldwide I level sites and to extend the test program development effort to include the P-3B ASN-lZ4 TAC/NAV (SRAs and WRAs) as well as the P-3C update U and Iff configurations. The resulting program includes over 30 ATEs and over 1,000 TPSs for functional and diagnostic testing of SRAs and WRAs.
