STE/FVS - total combat vehicle support with simplified test equipment

This paper describes the application of a Simpli fied Test System to the Infantry Fighting Vehicle (Gl-2) and the Cavalry Fighting Vehicle (XM-3). It outlines the logical first step for providing the Army with a field portable, simple to use and cost effective test set for total forward support of major vehicle systems. For the XM-2 and XM-3 under development by the U. S. Army, the Simplified Test Equipment concept has been made more comprehensive and applied to test of the total vehicle including turret power dis tribution, control, drive, stabilization and sighting systems as well as hull, engine, trans mission and electrical systems. This will result in ultimate speed and simplicity of providing for ward maintenance support enabling increased battle field availability, simplified training and re duced logistics costs.
