Design of a microprocessor based radar tracking system using stepper motor

This paper highlights a simple microprocessor based system that uses a stepper motor for the realisation of a radar tracking system. The hardware and software developed describes a two-stage control. In the first stage, the tracking antenna is taken to the position of the Incoming radiation. In the second stage, the antenna is controlled to align itself with the position of maximum received radiation within an error of + 1.80 (on the horizontal plans). With a little change in this mechanism the antenna can be made to scan the whole surface above the horizontal plane and to point to any position thereof. The tracking procedure was performed by the microprocessor and expected results were obtained within some limitations.
