LTE-advanced Carrier Aggregation solution on heterogeneous and Hardware accelerated system

Demand for high data-rate mobile broadband is on the rise with the proliferation of over-the-top (OTT) applications. Carrier Aggregation (CA) is the fourth generation LTE-A (Long Term Evolution - Advanced) wireless network technology defined to meet this demand. This paper provides in-depth description of the engineering methods to develop LTE-A Carrier Aggregation solution by enhancing non-CA LTE wireless system. It summarizes the need of CA in today's telecommunications ecosystem, background of the system platform, system design and key challenges in implementing CA solution on an industry leading System-on-Chip (SoC). The paper elaborates software solution designs to overcome the platform hardware challenges. The proposed solution is verified with 10+10 MHz Carrier Aggregation and end-to-end system performance results are highlighted.
