Numerical study of a regenerative centrifugal pump

Centrifugal pump is one of the simplest pieces of equipment in any process plant. CFD simulation makes it conceivable to visualize the flow condition inside the centrifugal pump. The main objective of this work is to present the CFD analysis of a domestic centrifugal pump without using experimental methods, which in most cases, showing the high cost of analysis. First of all the energy of this dissertation work would be to improve the head of the regenerative pump which is available in the market. Second part embraces of the failure analysis of the impeller. Failure analysis comprises of structural analysis of the impeller. Structural analysis finds the total deformation & strain energy of the impeller due to rotation. Modeling and structural analysis of the centrifugal pump is carried out using CATIA V5 and ANSYS respectively. The complex internal flow in centrifugal pump is analyzed using ANSYS-CFX. From the flow analysis, the head generated by the pump can be determined. From the failure analysis total deformation & strain energy affected by the impeller has been found out. Then the design of pump is modified to get better performance. Thus the total deformation of impeller is reduced and the head generated is improved.
