Analysis and modeling for the ELF atmospheric noise using a low-temperature superconducting receiver

In this paper, the ELF atmospheric noise measured by a low-temperature superconducting receiver is analyzed and modeled. The measured data are firstly reconstructed by wavelet transform to remove baseline wandering. And then the harmonics radiated by power line are estimated and subtracted by least square estimation. After preprocessing the measured data, Hall model and symmetric a stable (SaS) distribution are used to fit the envelop pdf of the narrow band atmospheric noise. Simulation results show, Hall model achieves better estimation performance than SaS distribution for a variety of real world data, and thus is optimal to model the ELF narrow band noise.
