Dual band Planar Inverted-f Antenna for LTE based mobile equipments

Dual band Planar Inverted Antenna (PIFA) for Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile equipment is presented in this paper. The proposed antenna has been designed using HFSS tool by etching three slots in the form of L - shape in the radiating patch of dimension 20mm × 30mm. The operating frequencies of the antenna ranges from 2.25 to 3.32 GHz and 3.32 to 3.74 GHz that covers LTE bands 7, 22, 38, 40, 41, and 42. The proposed antenna offers return loss, VSWR, as -29.69dB, 1.06, respectively for the I band from 2.25 to 3.32 GHz and -20.84dB, 1.19 for II band from 3.32 to 3.74GHz with the overall gain of 6.64dB. Compared to reference antenna using parasitic element the obtained results are better in terms of all three performance metrics with the size reduced to a considerable level. Hence the proposed antenna would be suitable for future wireless mobile devices.
