Electromagnetic force analysis in linear induction motors, considering end effect

Along with different phenomena, the end effect phenomenon deteriorates the performance of linear induction motors (LIMs). The end effect produces a braking force and reduces the thrust of the motor. In this paper, using Ampère and Maxwell basic equations, the air-gap flux density of the motor is calculated. Then, the electromagnetic force of LIM is calculated by using 1-D and 2-D field analysis. In order to calculate the braking force produced by the end effect, a finite length motor is considered. The forces due to entrance and exit end effect and the force without end effect are separately calculated. To validate the proposed methods, the obtained results are compared with those reported in literature.
