Event-triggered binary consensus in WSNs with fading channels

Considering the applications of binary consensus and the limited energy supply in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), this paper proposes an event-triggered binary consensus algorithm, and solves the binary consensus problem from the average consensus aspect by introducing of a non-linear function, which can dramatically reduce the convergence speed of the algorithm. Each node in the network determines whether and when to broadcast its state to its neighbors based on an event-triggered mechanism, with the trigger condition being designed based on the error between its present and last broadcasted state. Moreover, this paper considers the binary consensus over fading channels and investigates the influence of fading channels on the convergence rate of the proposed algorithm. Simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of the presented algorithm.
