Local loop developments in the UK

The current status of the local loop in the UK today and how it is likely to grow in the future are described. British Telecom's operating environment is examined to provide an understanding of the starting point for the local loop strategy. After a brief review of the existing copper network, technological developments in copper, fiber, and radio systems that will shape the future local loop are explored. A flexible rollout strategy involving a mixture of copper, fiber, and radio technologies is proposed.<
