EAR: An e-mail Attachment Receiver to Search Concerning Images in the Context of Insider Threat

Organizations often suffer devastating consequences at the hands of insiders. These consequences include theft of intellectual property, fraud, loss of reputation, and reduced confidence from customers. The main focus of this paper is with organizations that use Google Mail (Gmail) for business, and potentially malicious insiders who may send, receive, and store email images as attachments. We introduce a new custom-built application known as the Email Attachments Receiver (EAR) that can search Gmail for images. To test our application, we use the freely available Enron dataset and migrated it over to Gmail. The results of our application tested with the Enron dataset are provided. We conclude by discussing privacy and civil liberty concerns and providing directions for future research.
