Wide Temperature Range Operation of 25.8 Gbit/s Uncooled Direct Modulated Laser (DML) TOSA With Extremely High Eye Mask Margin

We report on the operation of a 25.8 Gbit/s DML TOSA over a wide temperature range (WTR) with extremely high eye-mask margin for Ethernet applications. The TOSA is comprised of a co-axial TO-CAN package with an LC-type receptacle for the optical connector and an FPC for the electrical interface. By combining a wide bandwidth InGaAlAs WTR-DFB chip and a novel TOSA design, extremely high Ethernet mask margins exceeding 30% at 25.8 Gbit/s over a case temperature of -- 5 degC to 75 degC is achieved. This TOSA enables small form factor modules, such as SFP+, to operate at up to 70 degC.
