Bandwidth efficiency in the next generation access architecture XG-PON

The dynamic bandwidth allocation methods improve optical access network's throughput when they efficiently exploit all offered characteristics by the underlying network architecture. Old, current or generic methods cannot significantly improve the procedure of bandwidth allocation upon future architectures like the 10 Gbit XG-PON. A DBA method that is designed to perform efficiently in this generation of optical access with low upstream latency and being able to scale according to the increasing number of served end-users, is presented and evaluated. It uses TCONT priorities to ensure fair allocation among users under the same service contract and variable grant cycles to ensure stable performance on a large grant range.
