A design framework for smart TV: Case study of the TaipeiTech smart TV system

Smart TV is dominating the TV market and will serve as the core device of digital home. We, an interdisciplinary research group at TaipeiTech, have been dedicated to the prototyping and key technology development of smart TV for years. In this study, we report the design methodology of the devised smart TV system and present some of our achievements. As the smart TV aims to integrate conventional broadcast TV programs with Internet and provides new ways of interaction, we emphasize the usability of interfaces for creating humanized user experience. The devised system seamlessly incorporates the gesture control, voice search, and smart phone for people interacting with the smart TV system. Each module of the system has passed the unit test and the overall system has been verified by groups of users.
