Study of a flexible power supply system with STATCOM based on a new dynamic EAF model

A novel chaotic model of electric arc furnace (EAF) is proposed in consideration of the chaotic nature of electric fluctuations caused by EAF. Based on the model proposed above, flexible power system of EAF is studied by using STATCOM in this paper. VO-DPC control method is adopted for STATCOM control due to its advantages like simple system structure, good dynamic performance, and high efficiency. Based on the data from a real EAF power supply system of a steel plant, the paper conducted simulation of this flexible power system. The simulation results show that this novel flexible power supply system can effectively damp voltage fluctuation and flicker, which hits the target of flexible power supply.
