A set of basis functions for the design of transversal elliptical gradient coils

The design of transversal gradient coil fabricated on the elliptic cylinder surface is discussed. The stream function method is used for gradient coil design. A set of basis functions for the construction of stream function is provided for the design of transversal elliptical gradient coils. In the final of the paper, a transversal elliptical gradient coils is designed with the stream function method with the proposed basis functions, and the performance of which is analyzed. This study demonstrates that the proposed basis functions can give good results.
