Managing technical professionals: applying management skills to other aspects of our lives

HAVING an aging family member diagnosed recently with Dementia, I have been reading articles, blogs, and various communications about the disease. The Friday before Easter, one of the weekly newsletters, I read regularly, had an article entitled "Focus on what really matters and soar above the clouds". It's a great article written by Angela Lunde in May 2014 and I recommend everyone to read it. It's not specifically about Dementia, but more about life and our attitude towards life in general; the general premise being "focus on what's important and let go of the smaller things that don't really matter", and it also shows how applying some of the critical skills we have all been trained to use at work could help us in our personal lives as well. It is this aspect of the article along with a recent experience I had in one of my new IEEE assignments that led me to write this quarter's article on "applying management skills to other aspects of our lives".
