Performance analysis of high-speed parallel optical transmission module based on LabVIEW platform-based test system

The basic requirement for short reach large capacity optical communications is high-speed, low power consumption, and modular multichannel parallel optical transmitters or transceivers with transmission and receiving capabilities incorporated in a single module. To characterize the performance of multichannel optical transceivers comprehensively quickly with high accuracy and reliability, a test system based on LabVIEW for optical transmission module is established. The optical transmission module parameters including optical power, extinction ratio, rise time and fall time can be tested, evaluated and analyzed. Based on the system, important parameters can be acquired at same time with the same injection current level, thus increasing the test efficiency, accuracy and repeatability, and avoiding the errors in manual recording of test data when many test runs are implemented. High-speed parallel optical transmission modules were tested. The test results show that the extinction ratio is reasonable, with typical extinction ratios of ~9dB, single channel optical powers of ~1mW, and the total data rates of the module can be up to 30Gbps, with satisfactory eye diagram good enough for short range data transmission.
