A response to "Wide-band communication into the home"

Discusses the Lewis (1962) predictive paper "Wide-band communication into the home" which predicted home communications 50 years ahead. Lewis approached the problem with the discipline and training of a scientist, which conditioned him to shun hyperbole and focus on projections based on established technological trends. He also brought to the task his perspective as the Executive Director of Bell Labs' Research Communications Systems Division, a position in which then, as now, one is charged with taking the broadest view of people's expectations of communications science and technology. The result is that the concise, understated, but remarkably prescient description of the rich world of home communication Lewis predicted for the year 2012 is largely in place. His vision has been exceeded in many ways-and we still have 14 years to go.
