Driving solution study of a turbine flowmeter dynamic calibration system

Calibration of a turbine flowmeter (TFM) can be basically divided into static calibration and dynamic calibration. However, numerous factors hinder the development of TFM's dynamic calibration. This paper proposes a novel solution to dynamic calibration of the TFMs, in which a nozzle-flapper valve is adopted to generate rapid flow excitation. Unlike conventional one, in this solution, a piezoelectric stack driving unit takes the place of a torque motor driving unit. The above-mentioned two different driving schemes are mathematically modeled and simulated respectively using AMESim. Comparison of simulation results shows that piezoelectric stack type calibration system provides a faster and larger flow excitation and effectively controls high-frequency oscillation of the flapper. On this basis, this paper tried to optimize key parameters of the dynamic calibration system including orifice diameter, nozzle diameter and diameter and length of pipelines and so on.
