Tunable and flexible electronics employing monolithically-integrated BST thin film

In this report, the ongoing research at University of Central Florida on the realization of tunable and flexible electronics using Barium Strontium Titante (BST) is discussed. Using novel design and fabrication technologies, a reconfigurable reflectarray based on BST-integrated capacitively-loaded patch elements operating at K
_a
band is shown. In addition, our current research on BST-based ring-loaded patch elements and flexible phase shifters are discussed. By monolithically integrating BST on flexible substrates, low-loss microwave systems with small real estate and low deployment costs can be realized. The presented designs find applications in both cellular communications such as 5G and deep-space applications.
