Results from a radar antenna comparison for a mine detection radar system

Measurements, using two different antennas and impulse radar systems are made for a comparison study. The equipment is designed to be used during the development of a hand-held mine detection system. The purpose of the study is to analyze the performance of a single channel crossed dipole antenna compared with a double channel crossed dipole antenna. The results show that using a single crossed dipole gives more than 8 dB higher Signal-to-Clutter-Ratio than using a double crossed dipole antenna in this particular setting. A second, less general, conclusion is that the performance of the two different radar systems used in the study differs with approximately 3 dB.
