INDIA: Inlet Dynamics Initiative Algarve

Describes the multi-disciplinary, international EU MAST III Project INDIA and summarises the project's objectives, work plans and results to date. The fundamental aim of the INDIA project is to obtain an improved understanding of interactive processes in and adjacent to a small tidal inlet. The project started on 1 November 1997 and involves numerical modelling of hydrodynamic and sedimentological processes, fieldwork using state-of-the-art equipment and remote sensing facilities and data management. Whilst fieldwork will focus on a natural tidal inlet in the Ria Formosa barrier islands, Algarve, Portugal, international partners and technical advisors will apply generic results from the study to other coastal areas worldwide.
