A Novel System for Managing Electrical Utility Loads

This paper describes a novel system for managing electrical utility loads by a unique combination of radio frequency and power line carrier signalling. The paper briefly reviews the history of utility load control and the need for load control under the present energy shortage. The advantages of this system approach are listed. The economical trade-offs of load management vs. additional generating capacity are briefly discussed. A detailed description of how this novel system works and functional description of each of the sub-units are presented.
