Automation philosophy of a hybrid plant

A 4 layered philosophy compatible with industry standards such as ISA-S88.01, IEC1131 and ISO9001-3 has been applied throughout in automating an AECI Bioproducts Lysine plant with batch, semi-continuous and continuous sections. This paper outlines pertinent aspects of the process of creating robust, maintainable automation software.
