Design of a multivariable feedback control system to drive durability test rigs in the automotive industry

This paper discusses the design of a MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output) tracking control system. Emphasis is put on the design of the feedback part of the multivariable controller. A new feedback control design technique combining the advantages of classical techniques as LQR and pole placement is presented. The application is situated in the automotive industry, where car manufacturers reproduce test-drives on multi axial test rigs. The new technique is validated on an experimental multivariable setup.
