An optimization method for a novel parallel metamorphic mechanism

A parallel metamorphic mechanism with two configuration, whose moving plate have translational or orientational output respectively through configuration-switch, is introduced. Different output of each configuration and complex coupling of the kinematic chains during configuration-switch process make it difficult to get the optimum results for the conventional optimization method. As well as the same components will get different results in the different configurations during the conventional optimization. First, the two configuration optimization models are built, and coupling relationship between two models are analyzed in detail. Then, an optimization method for this mechanism is proposed. The optimization method is based on Multidisciplinary Design Optimization, which build a global optimizer, two configuration optimizers and an overall frame. Finally, the optimization is done and analyzed. This optimization could solve the problem of kinematic chains' coupling and get the optimum result for all configurations. This optimization method lay a foundation to the related aspects of research on optimization for metamorphic mechanisms.
