A genetic algorithm approach to design an optimal fuzzy controller for rectifier current control in HVDC system

The paper presents an optimal design method for fuzzy logic controllers using a genetic algorithm (GA) in an HVDC system. Fuzzy logic controllers are applied to damp the dynamic disturbances such as sudden changes of AC system loads. The dynamic performances of fuzzy logic controllers are compared with those of PI controllers. In both controllers, the genetic algorithm is used for tuning membership functions and PI gains. The simulation results show that the dynamic performances of fuzzy controllers have better responses than those of PI controllers when the AC system load changes.
