Overall Stability Analysis of the Olympic Landscape Tower

The Olympic landscape tower locates in the centre area of Beijing Olympic Park. It's beside the south of North Xindian Village Road. The main building closes to the axis of the landscape Avenue. The building is consisted of 5 single- towers with different diameter and height connected by steel trusses. Each tower is composed of cylindrical body and the crown formed top with landscape hall and platform. The maximum height of single-towers is 244.35m. This structure is a kind of flexible high-rise structure. According to the relevant design specifications, the overall stability of the flexible high- rise structure should be checked. Stability analysis refers to the response of structural capacity when the second-order effects are considered. Discussing the influence of geometric non-linearity under lateral load, the stability of the structure and the effective length of the components separately, the results show that for this multi-tower combined structure, the geometric nonlinear effect is not obvious, the problem of overall instability does not exist and the main components are controlled by material strength. These results could be used as design references in similar projects in the future.
