High-frequency recording system for transient processes in 6–110 kV electrical networks

The paper presents the results of development and trial operation of a new system for high-frequency recording of transient processes and abnormal events (faults) in 6–110 kV electrical networks. The recording system is used for monitoring and oscillography of transeint processes at circuit breaker switchings, various single phase-to-ground faults and short circuits, lightning strikes, and so on. Key features of the developed recording system are high sampling rate (up to 50 kHz for 6–10 kV side and up to 10 MHz for 110 kV side) and on-line data transmission. This paper shows and analyzes real oscillograms recorded during trial operation in the 10 kV urban cable network. Perspectives for development and application of high-frequency recording systems are determined including possibility of fault location for medium-voltage power lines.
