Optimal hybrid supply system for an Algerian remote village

In this paper the optimum hybrid wind diesel electricity supply system for an Algerian remote village is determined. Since the windiest region of the country is situated in the south west the study has been carried for a particular site located in that area. First Algeria's wind map is presented followed by a detailed sizing of a wind diesel hybrid system using meteorological data for this region. Different system configurations have been simulated using Homer software. Comparison in terms of pollutant emissions for the optimum configuration has also been carried out. The technically, economically and environmentally best hybrid wind/GE/Battery supply system solution that satisfies the electrical power requirement of the considered location has been found. Emission of carbon dioxide is also reduced. Sensitivity analysis for the behavior of the solution with respect to wind speed and diesel cost variations has also been performed. A comparison with a similar grid connected system has also been given.
