Separation and equalization of cochannel GSM signals

The Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) is a digital cellular radio network that employs time-division multiple access (TDMA). Because frequencies are reused in a cellular system, the transmissions in a cell can interfere with those in distant cells, resulting in cochannel interference. We describe a beamformer and equalizer system that is capable of separating and demodulating several cochannel GSM signals. Computer simulations are presented to demonstrate the performance of the adaptive algorithm.
