Design of surface permanent magnet-type vernier motor - effect of rotor diameter -

This paper describes a surface permanent magnet (SPM)-type vernier motor, whose design is based on the torque equation for the motor. The output characteristics are calculated using both the torque equation and voltage equation on the γ and δ axes. In this study, the rotor diameter, turns per phase, and core length are optimized in order to achieve the design objectives. These are a maximum output power of more than 10.5 kW (a pull-out torque of more than 1000 N·m), a power factor at 7 kW of more than 90%, and an efficiency at 7 kW of more than 85%, under an operating voltage, frequency, and synchronous speed of 400 V, 50 Hz, and 100 min
