Investigation of propagation properties of Surface Plasmon Polariton mode in AlGaAs/Ag/AlGaAs waveguide

Propagation properties of Surface Plasmon Polariton (SPP) mode in AlGaAs/Ag/AlGaAs waveguide are presented. A two dimensional finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) based algorithm has been developed in order to analyze the dynamics of the waveguide numerically. The SPP mode is excited through a monochromatic point source embedded in the AlGaAs layer. The SPP wavelength in the waveguide and penetration depth of SPP in Ag and AlGaAs layers have been calculated both analytically and numerically. An excellent agreement has been observed between the analytical and numerical results. The electric field strength at different distances from top AlGaAs/Ag interface is also analyzed and presented.
