Graphite waste and its composite with TiO2 and Cu-TiO2 as anode for Li-ion battery

This research study the application of graphite waste from primary battery and its composite with TiO
₂
and Cu-TiO
₂
as anode for Li-ion battery. The graphite waste in rod form were sliced into 1 mm thickness of thin pellets, then the titania layer were coated by chemical bath deposition. In order to modifiy the TiO
₂
/Graphite with Cu deposites, an electrodeposition method was applied. The prepared materials were analyzed by XRD to determines the phases and its crystal structure. The performance of the prepare materials as anode is determined from their specific capacity and their cycle ability. The specific capacity was measured during discharging process from fully charged until the cut off voltage. A 300 Ω was used as a load. The result shows that the composite of graphite waste with TiO
₂
has better performance as anode with the specific capacity of 230.87 ± 1.70 mAh.g
^-1
. Meanwhile the Li ion battery with pure graphite waste as anode has specific capacity of 140.75 ± 0.46 mAh.g
^-1
. The composite of graphite waste with Cu-TiO
₂
also has better performance than pure graphite waste as anode with the specific capacity is 144.22 ± 0.55 mAh.g
^-1
. However, this value is much lower than the Li-ion battery with TiO
₂
/Graphite as anode.
