Performance comparison of non-coherent IR-UWB receivers

The paper evaluates and compares the bit error (BER) performance of the various non-coherent IR-UWB receivers in IEEE 802.15.4a UWB environment and AWGN channel. The various non-coherent IR-UWB schemes discussed are TR, RTR, ATR, RATR, DTR and ED receivers. The simulation results clearly show that under the same conditions, ED receiver outperforms TR receiver and is similar to DTR and RATR in performance, despite its low power consumption, in AWGN and IEEE 802.15.4a UWB CM1 and CM2 environment for number of frames, N

increases to 2, DTR and RATR receiver reveals its superiority over the other non-coherent IR-UWB schemes. Inspite of this performance degradation, low complexity ED receivers are preferred over AC receivers.
